Google: By using AI and deep learning to detect risk of hospital readmission - Value-based care

Paris - Publié le mercredi 24 mai 2017 à  1 h 07 - n° 3761 GoogleGoogle Brain, a Google research team specialised in AI, revealed its project to develop an artificial intelligence tool that can predict the risk of disease for each individual, announced at the Google I/O conference 2017.
The objective of this project is to detect the risk of future potential diseases and avoid the hospital readmission after the first hospital visit. It also aims to improve the healthcare quality inside hospitals, facing to new emerging health economic models.

For the success of this project, Google will apply its expertise in machine learning, which has been acquired during the development of its different tools, like Google Translation.

Google is partnering with hospitals and several American universities in Chicago and San Francisco, including Stanford University to develop this project.  Hospitals are the major source of exploitable data. These data origins from millions of anonymous medical records transmitted to society, including data from admission records, medical records, diagnoses, biological analysis results, and so on.

By relying on machine learning, this predictive tool is based on algorithms enabling it to :

  • detect a potential hospitalisation for each patient
  • show the evolution of health state of each patient
  • determine whether the patient is likely to suffer a post-hospitalization

Google expressed that this project has already identified the needs of hospitals,  facing to the new emergence of different health economic models, especially for the value-based care.
