China: Infervision start-up creates an AI-based system for detecting lung cancer

A system based on in-depth learning
In China, lung cancer causes about 600,000 deaths each year according to official figures.
To combat this scourge, Infervision has decided to use artificial intelligence to help medical teams more easily detect the disease and allow patients to benefit from treatment as soon as possible.
The company's device is based on three high-tech tools
- The system developed by the Chinese society is based in particular on the Intelligent CT Assisted Diagnosis (AI-CT), which can assist in early stage lung cancer screening. This kind of artificial intelligence is capable of detecting and highlighting cancer features on a series of CT images. It detects cancer nodules and allows doctors to identify them more easily and gives patients a better chance of survival.
- The Intelligent X-ray Assisted Diagnosis (AI-DR) helps radiologists locate lung lesions. It can detect over twenty different kinds of lesions and has proven that it can identify those that radiologists usually miss.
- Infervision uses also what it calls "The AI scholar." It is an intelligent deep learning research platform that allows doctors with no computing background to use complex learning algorithms. The tool can process more than one hundred images at once.
Artificial intelligence could revolutionize the healthcare industry
During its first year of existence, Infervision has successfully demonstrated the value of artificial intelligence in assisting healthcare professionals. The start-up has processed roughly 100,000 CT scans and 100,000 x-rays in 2016, a colossal work.
The Chinese company hopes to extend its deep learning concepts to other areas of the medical profession in the coming years.
